Personal Background
Krista van der Niet was born in 1978 in the Netherlands (Amsterdam). This is where she lives and works to this day. She went to school in 2002, and Graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy. She states in a recent interview that she grew up with a love for the arts. Before she went to the Academy, she had never even touched a camera before. She was always creative from a young age...and really enjoyed to work with her hands. This sparked her idea for photography, and she has now become so successful. Before she wanted to pursue photography, she thought that the idea was very difficult, but then realized soon that it was perfect for her.
Style
She loves to take photos in a very aesthetic photos. She loves to make her photos "clean" not to get confused with "boring". She uses an undertone to throw the photo off a little bit. She stages objects in unusual ways and patterns. She gets her ideas and her creative taste from observing outside.. either on walks, or when she drives. She crafted, fiddled, and creating on a daily basis. I love that all of her photos are humorous as well as strange. She likes people to look at her photos and be confused. That was her style, confusing.
Philosophy
Krista van der Niet is inspired by almost everything for her photographs. Drawings, sculptures, and way more. She also gets inspired by things that she watches on TV. She has such a large imagination and can make art out of different things. She believes in finding beauty in everyone and everything, so she decided to do still life photography. Taking objects that people overlook, and finding something cool about it.
Influences
I am so intrigued in her work, and would love to have the ability and creativeness that she has. She has inspired me to find beauty in objects that people usually don't. Everything holds something important and can be conveyed in an artistic form. Just talking a walk, or being in a store can open so many different ideas. I now would like to try and do the same and take something so simple, and then make in my own and vision something that no one else could. This will lead me to re arrange different things and be creative with my thinking. I also love how she never even picked up a camera until she was in college. This shows me that you really do not need to know what you want to do for your future profession... but everything will fall into place, and I will find what I want to do for my future as well. Her hard work to get where she is today motivates me a lot, and I hope to be as successful someday.
Compare and Contrast
I choose to recreate this photo because i thought it would be a difficult, yet a fun photo to recreate. I loved working with the fruit, and trying to get the same angle. Something that was hard about making this photo...Was getting the background to be the same. I tried using a box at first...but you could easily see that it was a box. I think I did pretty well organizing the fruit, and making it more my style. I showed that I can persevere, and get the job done with the materials I have. This taught me to be more creative.
The next photo I choose to recreate was this photo of pencils. The reason I did is because I thought this would be easy to do. But, I was incorrect. Trying to find a full white background was harder than expected, and trying ti get that one pencil to balance upright. I think I did do a good job with the lighting, and editing the photo to look similar in color and in contrast. If I were to change anything.. It would be to get rid of the shadows. It was hard to do so because of the natural light. I would also use the correct pencil holder. But, overall... I showed that I can be creative.
This photo I choose because I was confident enough in my editing skills. I knew that I probably was not able to find that perfect blue background...but with what i learned in photoshop..I could edit the background to a nice blue color that will look very nice. I had some trouble doing that..but I got it to the closest color blue that I could. It was hard though to get the string to show up. Its hard to see... but overall I really like how it turned out.
Personal Artist Statement
I think that I did I very good job re-creating my photos. It took a lot of time and did not procrastinate. I think I used what I know about photoshop and demonstrated it in my photos. In all the pictures I was creative with the resources that I had, and the placings that i had to take the photos at. For the peaches pictures, I had a-lot of fun with it and enjoyed taking them. Also with the apple photo.. editing it showed I have gained a-lot of skill. In conciliation.. I think I did really well and I enjoyed this project.
